Introduction
In this big idea project, you will be adding and subtracting animals. You will count equal groups of fish, add and subtract them, and find even or odd numbers. Adding with Manipulatives For this project, try modeling the problems using counting manipulatives at your desk. You can use cubes, crayons, or any small object to help you count.

Example 1: Adding Using Doubles
The whale wants to move 5, and then another 5. 5 + 5 Adding doubles is sometimes easier than adding other numbers. We can solve: 5 + 5 = 10 |
Example 2: Even and Odd Fish
